The students of Allegan Alternative High School were recently announced as the winners of the 2016 Pride, Beautification, and Promotion Award. The students were selected for their work at the Community Garden, their fundraising/marketing efforts surrounding the showing of Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory in October, and the Heroes Dinner they hosted the week of Thanksgiving. The award will be presented at the Allegan Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Evening of Recognition, to be held at The Silo on Thursday, February 23. Theresa Bray, Executive Director and CEO of the Allegan County Community Foundation, started a campaign for people to sponsor the meals of the students so that those wishing to do so may attend the event. Other individuals and organizations to be recognized include PJ Printing’s Cindi Kurtz (Business Person of The Year); Wishbone Pet Rescue’s Susan Smith (Lifetime Acheivement); The Allegan Lions Club (Community Service, Organization); Michael Kiella (Community Service, Individual), Dr. William Davis (Healthcare Provider); The Sassy Olive’s Landria Christman (Young Entrepreneur); and AAESA Math & Science Coordinator, Amy Oliver (Education Professional). A Pride of Allegan Award will be presented to the family of beloved local-historian, John C. Pahl, who passed away on December 31, 2016.
