For the second year in a row, Michigan-based Chemical Bank closed its local branches on the October 13 Federal Holiday to volunteer in their communities through the Chemical Bank Cares initiative. The staff spent the day volunteering at the Wishbone Pet Rescue Alliance-managed Allegan Animal Shelter.
The Allegan Chemical Bank staff, along with Chemical Bank employees from Battle Creek, Byron Center, and Zeeland, assisted the Shelter by cleaning and organizing a storage shed and the old shelter facility, cleaned windows, groomed animals, and comforted postoperative animals. “It was a wonderful day and we certainly enjoyed meeting and assisting the Shelter workers, and of most of all, the animals. It always feels great to give back to the community”, said Chemical Bank Branch Manager Lovedia Stap, who also adopted an 8-year-old house cat named Smokey. Said Sara Decker, Executive Director of Wishbone Pet Rescue Alliance, “It was wonderful to have Chemical Bank help us out at the Shelter. They are a great group of women and did an amazing job.”
A week and a half later on October 23, Allegan Chemical Bank hosted a 5:01 Party for members of the Allegan Area Chamber of Commerce and invited guests. Attendees enjoyed an array of appetizers, desserts, and beverages while networking with representatives from area businesses. Denise Curtis, Business Services Representative from the Allegan office of Michigan Works!, was the winner of the door prize provided by Chemical Bank.
