2/3//2020 // ZEELAND, MICH – Dick Haworth, chairman emeritus, Haworth and Jim Brooks, chairman, Brooks Capital Management received the 2020 Lakeshore Advantage Visionary Award at the Lakeshore Advantage Annual Meeting on Thursday, January 30. This event was attended by nearly 400 business and community leaders.
At the event, Haworth and Brooks sat down with Lakeshore Advantage president, Jennifer Owens, for conversation where they shared about the importance of connections and an upcoming community strategic planning initiative. Fifth Third Bank was the presenting sponsor for the event.
“The persistence, forward-thinking and care of this community that Dick Haworth and Jim Brooks live out are what make them true visionaries,” said Jennifer Owens, Lakeshore Advantage president. “To have the platform to honor them and hear about how their nearly 60-year friendship and future plans for the community was such a gift for me and everyone at the event.”
As part of the discussion, Haworth and Brooks announced Future Search 2020 to be held on May 27-29. This unique planning session is designed to gather voices from key sectors in order to create a clear community vision. The last community Future Search was held in 2011.
In order to prepare for Future Search 2020, a survey has been launched to seek insight on the community’s strengths and weaknesses. The survey is open until March 31 and available at www.futuresearch2020.com for community members who wish to provide comment.
“None of us can do individually what all of us can do together,” commented Jim Brooks during the Lakeshore Advantage Annual Meeting. “The conclusions of it (Future Search Survey) will be the beginning of the hard work of this community coming together to make the vision a reality.”
The Visionary Award recognizes leaders who go above and beyond to spearhead initiatives which involve commitment, creative thinking, collaboration and form partnerships to create a positive economic impact. Past award winners include: Dave Koster and Tim Hemingway of Holland Board of Public Works, and Rich Currie, Welding Instructor for Allegan County Area Technical and Education Center.

The Lakeshore Advantage Annual Meeting is a gathering of Lakeshore Advantage investors and business and community leaders in the West Michigan Lakeshore region. Nearly 400 business and community leaders attended the event where Lakeshore Advantage shared stories of connection and success. Lakeshore Advantage shared stories from 2019, along with information on the 21 growth projects they assisted with in 2019 that resulted in $127 million in private investment and 1,000 new or retained jobs.
