The City of Allegan is pleased to announce that specific ideas are being gathered by Michigan State University, for the riverfront development five year visioning plan. The drop in meetings are being held January 10 and 11, 2013, between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, at the Griswold Auditorium, in the lower level. A final meeting for the week will be held January 12, 2013, at 11:00 AM, to see the ideas. All the meetings are being held at the Griswold Auditorium, 401 Hubbard Street, on the lower level.
The project area includes all the downtown riverfront properties adjacent to M-89, the 1886 Historical Second Street Bridge, riverfront parking area, Griswold Auditorium and Allegan District Library. We want specific ideas from individuals to lead the development plan through this facilitated process. Many individuals have already scheduled afternoon meetings, so it should be quite exciting. If you would like to meet during the afternoon instead of the evening, please e-mail email@example.com for available times. Ideally, we would like individuals to attend Thursday, and come back on Friday and Saturday to fine tune the ideas and listen to the results. This is truly your opportunity to provide input on how to rejuvenate this critical area in Downtown Allegan.
This effort is being facilitated by Michigan State University and the Michigan Municipal League, through a grant provided by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. Allegan was only one of five communities in Michigan to receive a Place Plan Technical Assistance Grant for creating a community design. This is quite an honor. What has been clear is that as a result of the announcement of the grant, the Downtown Riverfront is a cherished area for the community of Allegan, and we need many stakeholders to participate who love the Downtown Riverfront. We appreciate your willingness to bring your ideas and energy to create a vision of the future.
