Love INC’s main objective is to mobilize local churches to provide immediate and long-term relief to struggling area families. Through its Clearinghouse, immediate needs are identified and met by local pantries (food, clothing, personal needs, baby needs and others). For long-term help, Love INC developed the L.I.F.E. (Learning In Finances and Everyday) Skills Program, in which participants can earn weekly and quarterly vouchers to pantries while completing goals, participating in classes and receiving one-to-one mentoring for up to a year. The L.I.F.E. Skills Program is an integral part of the Love INC Ministry. Former participants have graduated from the program to become mentors, volunteers and even Board members of Love INC, as well as active participants in society. L.I.F.E. Skills is also offered to Faith Pod members in the Allegan County Jail. The L.I.F.E. Skills participants are monitored weekly as they complete the goals they have set with input from their mentor and caseworker. Each goal sheet is filed; assessments are written on their progress. Upon completion of their goal sheets, new vouchers are issued. Staff and volunteer mentors also assess financial information with participants through establishing a budget, discussing employment (where applicable), ways to increase income, and debt reduction. Non-financial areas of potential benefit through support, guidance, encouragement and accountability include: educational goals, emotional/mental health, faith and spiritual strength, goal setting, housing, transportation, substance use/abuse, coping, problem solving, and available support systems.
Locally, Love INC networks with over 40 churches in the Allegan, Hamilton and Pullman areas.
