The City of Allegan, in coordination with Abonmarche Consulting of Benton Harbor and Perrigo Company plc, is thrilled to announce the Grand Opening of the Perrigo splash Pad in the Riverfront Park.
The opening of the Perrigo Splash Pad also marks the completion of the Riverfront Park, a project that has progressed into a picturesque destination. The first phase, which began in 2015, included the development of a performance stage and pedestrian plaza. The second phase included park improvements to the existing Veteran’s Memorial and the addition of a rain garden and was followed by the third phase’s addition of a privately owned zip line over the Kalamazoo River.
The fourth and final phase now includes the 100-person Perrigo Splash Pad, made possible by a $130,000 donation from Perrigo Company plc, an 18’ long fireplace, additional pedestrian plaza and landscaping, as well as the installation of a shade structure, sunscreen dispenser, and additional tables and seating. City Manager Joel Dye said of the completion, “The exciting addition of the splash pad to the Riverfront Park would not be possible without the generosity of the Perrigo Company and their commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents of the Allegan community. We are thankful for their relationship with the City of Allegan.
”The Riverfront Park is bookended by Hanson Park to the west, complete with a gazebo, playground, and a handicap accessible canoe and kayak launch, and Mahan Park with a gazebo and amphitheater seating to the east. Please join us on Friday, May 24 at 9:00am for the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Perrigo Splash Pad!
