A Letter to Allegan District Library Voters –
On August 7, the Allegan District Library will ask voters to renew .85 mills for library operations. To be very clear, this is not a new tax rather a renewal of the millage rate voters approved when the District Library was formed in 2010. The Allegan Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors encourages your support of this renewal.
The Allegan District Library is a great benefit to our local business community. The library provides access to online databases with market research that budding entrepreneurs use to create business plans and that small businesses and employers use to manage and market their companies.
Workforce development is at the very core of all economic development. Library materials, programs, and services help adults become better readers and learners, thus, more desirable employees. Library job and career resources help prepare workers to learn new skills and apply for jobs.
Library services and staff help our children become readers and our students become researchers. The library is a third-space where students meet to collaborate on school projects, study, and sometimes, just to hang out. Families gather at the library for story time, educational play, after-school clubs, presentations on everything from local history to beekeeping, and live performances.
We urge voters to support the millage renewal to maintain the vital services and resources offered by Allegan District Library. Vote yes for our library and our community on August 7.
On behalf of the Allegan Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors,
Tim Perrigo, Executive Director
